Inclusive Yoga for English Speakers on the Riviera

One of the most common things I hear as a yoga teacher is, “I’m not flexible enough to practice yoga”, or “I”m not spiritual enough to be a yogi”. I strongly believe that yoga must be inclusive and accessible to everybody, and that everyone can benefit from a regular yoga practice. So whether you have experience with yoga in the past, or if you are a complete beginner, everyone is welcome.

I offer three different styles of yoga (Yin, Hatha, and Vinyasa Yoga). Please read below the description and decide which style you would prefer to practice.

Which style is best suited to me?

Traditional Hatha Yoga

“Hatha yoga teaches us to use the body as the bow, asana as the arrow, and the soul as the target” (B.K.S Iyengar, author of “Light on Yoga”).

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha yoga quite literally means sun and moon (ha=sun) (tha=moon) and is one of the most ancient forms of yoga. Most yoga styles that are practiced in the West are branches of hatha yoga.
In a Hatha yoga class you will complete a series of Asanas (poses), Pranayama (breathing), Dyana, (meditation), ending in Savasana (final relaxation). Hatha yoga could be a great choice for you if you are looking to live a more sattvic (balanced) lifestyle as it balances both the feminine and masculine energy channels (yin and yang).

What are the benefits of practicing Hatha Yoga?

Increased concentration and focus
Better sleep
Relief of muscular pain and tension
Increased strength and flexibility
Reduced stress

Vinyasa Yoga

What is Vinyasa yoga?

Vinyasa yoga is a more modern branch of yoga, based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga tradition. Vinyasa classes are usually a little bit more dynamic than Hatha, as you synchronize movement with breath. The focus is on how you flow between different Asanas (postures).
Vinyasa classes will follow a similar structure to hatha, but you

A vinyasa class is a good choice for you if you are looking for a good workout, along with the added benefit of relaxation.

Some benefits of a regular vinyasa practice include:

Increased strength and flexibility
Increased concentration
Improved stamina
Weight loss
Improved cardiovascular health
Stress relief

Yin Yoga

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga is an ancient form of yoga which originates from China. It works to stretch the connective tissues (fascia) in the body. Yin yoga is a beautiful and contemplative practice. It could be a great practice for you if you participate in a lot of yang practices (such as vinyasa or ashtanga) or if you practice a lot of high energy sports, to balance the energy systems in your body.

What are the benefits of Yin Yoga?

Helps build emotional awareness
Reduces stress and anxiety
Teaches resilience
Reduces physical tension in the body
Improves sleep
Stretches the fascia tissues
